Our Mission
We aim for a world where video games go beyond entertainment to help people’s lives as medical treatment.
The Potential of Video Games as “Medicine”
Video games are built on the “design of behavior” by game designers. Children make mistakes, use trial and error, and strive through playing in virtual space. There are many similarities between the way we approach video games and the way we confront problems in the real world.
The mental problems that children face are the result of a complex interplay of many factors, including society, personality, emotions, and relationships. Because there are as many entanglements as there are people, diagnosis and treatment must be done carefully.
We believe that by gaining a clearer picture of how children “think” through the “design of behavior” in video games, we can approach a wide variety of mental problems more deeply.
Video Games and Children
Today’s children are “digital natives,” a generation that has been surrounded by digital media since birth. Just as cars are a part of daily life for many adults in today’s society, we are living in an era in which children will be asked how they can live in harmony with video games.
We believe that for this generation of digital natives, the medium of video games can transcend the boundaries of entertainment and become part of their lives as “medicine.
Medical Video Games.
Creators and companies around the world are taking on the challenge of putting video games into a new medical context.
Almaprism is a cross-disciplinary team of game designers, data scientists, and physicians who are committed to the challenge of “new digital medicine,” a world in which video games can be used as “medicine” to solve problems faced by children, parents, and doctors.
